Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact the Lakewood Rangers proved on Saturday. They came out on top against Normandy by a score of 47-36. That's another feather in the cap for Lakewood, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakewood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Delaney Garcia, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Garcia is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Layla Smith was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Normandy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Izzy Akin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Akin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammi Perdue, who scored ten points along with three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Lakewood and bumps their season record up to 5-7. As for Normandy, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood will take on Holy Name at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Holy Name focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday. As for Normandy, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Valley Forge at 11:30 a.m. on January 13th. Valley Forge is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
