The Whitney Wildcats will square off against the Woodcreek Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Whitney is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Granite Bay get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Whitney got a great performance from Taylor Cordell as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Cordell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Rabe was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Steele, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
Whitney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granite Bay only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Woodcreek had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Flames as they made off with a 9-0 win.
Maryn Macneil was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Macneil was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Preuss, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Camryn Kelley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Woodcreek pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Whitney, their victory bumped their record up to 21-9.
Both Whitney and Woodcreek just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Woodcreek struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitney skirted past Woodcreek 4-3 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
