The Durango Demons posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 43-11 victory over Battle Mountain at home. Given Durango's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Battle Mountain is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Durango got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mariah Maestas out in front who scored ten points along with seven steals. Another player making a difference was Katelynn Sheppard, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Battle Mountain struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Durango now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Battle Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Durango won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Eagle Valley at 11:30 a.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Eagle Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 last Thursday. As for Battle Mountain, they will head out on the road to take on Grand Junction Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Grand Junction Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
