The University Titans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 14th straight loss. They fell to Pine Ridge 66-61. University has struggled against the Panthers recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
University's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Johnson, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Johnson also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidon Amoah, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, University were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Pine Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Travis Jackson, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jackson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Laird, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
University's loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Pine Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
University will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Deltona presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Titans in Florida (the Wolves are ranked 190th, while the Titans are ranked 607th). As for Pine Ridge, they will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully DeLand focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Saturday.
