The Northridge Vikings struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (the Newark Catholic Green Wave had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Northridge lost to Newark Catholic at home by a decisive 54-40 margin. While losing is never fun, Northridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while Newark Catholic is ranked 67th).
Northridge's loss came despite strong showings from Ava Travis and Ruby Cermak. Travis scored 15 points along with six rebounds, while Cermak scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Travis scored a full 37.5% of Northridge's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Newark Catholic to victory were Sophie Chard peloquin and Kylie Gibson. Chard peloquin scored nine points along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Gibson scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gibson has scored at least 25% of Newark Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Fini Kaiser, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Northridge's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Newark Catholic, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northridge will take on Zanesville at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Zanesville is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Newark Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Watkins Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
