The Utica Chieftains are still undefeated this season after their matchup against the Romeo Bulldogs on Monday, but the Romeo Bulldogs came as close as anyone has to beating them. Utica skirted past Romeo 55-53. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Utica has scored all year.
Utica got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ali Hasan out in front who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Luke Cottingham, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Utica's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Romeo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Utica will head out on the road to face off against Fraser at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fraser will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Utica is ranked 14th). As for Romeo, they will play host again and welcome Hamtramck, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Hamtramck's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
