Basketball Recap: Sargent Piles Up the Points Against Crested Butte

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Sargent on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Crested Butte Titans out of the water with a 54-18 final score. The Farmers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Sargent got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Angelise Garcia out in front who went 6-for-15 en route to 14 points and eight steals. Garcia is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kandace Pargin, who went 9-for-18 on her way to 20 points and five steals.

Sargent smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Crested Butte lost, don't look at Molly Miller. Despite the final result, she posted eight points. That was a full 44.4% of Crested Butte's points, marking the fifth time in a row Miller has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Sargent has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.1 points over those games. Crested Butte's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15.

Sargent does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Crested Butte, they have already played their next matchup, a 33-14 loss against South Park on the 22nd.
