Galion is 0-10 against the Vikings since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Galion Tigers will head out on the road to take on the River Valley Vikings at 7:15 p.m. Galion is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Galion was beaten by the Redmen 49-17. Galion has struggled against the Redmen recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 26 to 9 on the offensive boards, a fact River Valley proved on Tuesday. They took down Ridgemont 53-35. Given River Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Golden Gophers are ranked 775th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
River Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lexie Hecker led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Halle Snyder was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Galion has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for River Valley, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Galion was dealt a bruising 62-28 loss at the hands of the Vikings in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Snyder, who scored 18 points along with seven steals. Now that Galion knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
