Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Shelton

Shelton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Sacred Heart Academy as they made off with a 15-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gaels, who have now won 12 matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Sammi Denihan spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Wheeler was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Jeanise Serrano was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

Shelton's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shelton will take on Sheehan at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they will be playing at home against Foran at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
