After both having extra time off, the Clover Hill Cavaliers and the Manchester Lancers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clover Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Clover Hill made easy work of J.R. Tucker and carried off a 12-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.
Clover Hill let Madison Hayes and Cayla Wright run wild. Hayes scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Wright scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those stolen bases were Hayes' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Paige Marshall, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Clover Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as J.R. Tucker only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Manchester beat Ocean Lakes 6-1 last Friday.
Cam Winiarski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Newsom, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Manchester pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Clover Hill, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both Clover Hill and Manchester just can't seem to miss. The Cavaliers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Manchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clover Hill might still be hurting after the 10-4 defeat they got from Manchester in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
