Monticello is 1-9 against Monument Valley since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Monticello Buckaroo will head out on the road to square off against the Monument Valley Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Monticello was able to grind out a solid victory over Pinnacle, taking the game 34-27. The win was just what Monticello needed coming off of a 66-35 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Monument Valley came tearing into Tuesday's match with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 victory over Whitehorse.
Shimequa Hudson was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Mariah Begaye, who scored ten points.
Monticello's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Monument Valley, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1.
Monticello took a serious blow against Monument Valley when the teams last played back in January, falling 62-23. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Monticello was down 44-15.
