The Sealy Tigers will square off against the Giddings Buffaloes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sealy knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Giddings likes a good challenge.
Sealy's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Almeta Crawford. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 22 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jade Barton and Avery Grigar did most of the damage at the plate: Barton went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Grigar went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Grigar has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Kram13, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sealy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .550. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Giddings hadn't done well against Caldwell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Buffaloes came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hornets, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buffaloes have posted since February 28th.
Maggie Page spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Giddings let Jenna Jewell and Emeree Townsend run wild. Jewell went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Townsend went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalee Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Sealy pushed their record up to 28-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Giddings, the win got them back to even at 14-14-1.
Sealy's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Giddings, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sealy continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Sealy's way against Giddings in their previous meeting back in February, as Sealy made off with an 11-4 victory. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
