After flying high against the York Cougars last Tuesday, the South Pointe Stallions came back down to earth. South Pointe lost to Catawba Ridge at home by a decisive 60-45 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, South Pointe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Catawba Ridge is ranked fourth).
South Pointe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Treven Raymon, who scored 14 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ry'Darius Hill, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Catawba Ridge found their leader in underclassman Lance Barnes, who scored 34 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barnes has scored all season. Zyan Hager was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six steals and five assists.
South Pointe's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-13. As for Catawba Ridge, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Pointe won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lancaster at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. South Pointe will be up against Lancaster's rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for Catawba Ridge, they will be playing at home against York at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Catawba Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,076 points over their last 14 contests.
