The Loudoun Valley Vikings will be playing at home against the Broad Run Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Loudoun Valley missed an extra point against Woodgrove on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove were almost perfectly matched up, but Loudoun Valley suffered an agonizing 26-25 loss. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Loudoun Valley in their matchups with Woodgrove: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite their loss, Loudoun Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ethan Lafollette, who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Johnson, who rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Broad Run's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Tuscarora, falling 49-21. While losing is never fun, Broad Run can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Tuscarora is ranked 42nd).
Loudoun Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Broad Run, they bumped their record down to 3-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Loudoun Valley has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Broad Run struggles in that department as they've been even better at 227.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
