The Blair Blazers will head out on the road to face off against the Laurel Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Blair has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Laurel will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Friday, Blair was beaten by Blake 34-7.
Meanwhile, Laurel had just enough and edged Bladensburg out 28-25 on Friday.
Laurel can attribute much of their success to Takel Sanford, who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns, and Nathan Watkins, who gained 190 total yards and a touchdown. Edwin Rivas made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Laurel's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Myles Barrett and Ryyan Brown who racked up five sacks between them.
Blair's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Quince Orchard and 5-4 Bethesda-Chevy Chase (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75% over those games). As for Laurel, their win bumped their record up to 4-4.
Blair took their victory against Laurel in their previous matchup back in November of 2021 by a conclusive 56-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blair since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
