The Spring Valley Timberwolves will face off against the Dawson-Bryant Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Spring Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Parkersburg South, who was ranked ninth at the time (Spring Valley was ranked 23rd). The Timberwolves came up short against the Patriots on Thursday, falling 9-0. Considering the last time the Timberwolves couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, Dawson-Bryant waltzed into their game on Monday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Abbie Deeds made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Kitts, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Braelie Hitchcock was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Dawson-Bryant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairland only posted a batting average of .000.
Dawson-Bryant's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Spring Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Dawson-Bryant struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
