Basketball Recap: Jellico Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Seth Brandenburg and Trey Vann

After flying high against Coalfield last Tuesday, Jellico came back down to earth. The Jellico Blue Devils received a blow on Friday as they fell 91-74 to the Midway Green Wave. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 83-79 back in December of 2024.

Trey Vann and Seth Brandenburg certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Vann almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards, while Brandenburg went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. Vann has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 16 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dre Webb, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Jellico smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

With the loss, Jellico broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-10. As for Midway, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Jellico is taking a road trip to take on Oliver Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Jellico's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. As for Midway, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Wartburg Central at 6:30 p.m.
