Bakersfield Christian and Independence are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bakersfield Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Bakersfield Christian's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Bakersfield. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Drillers: they've now won seven in a row.

Not much got past Anabell Hinojosa, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Bakersfield off the board. Hinojosa has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cailee Carr was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Vionne Chavez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Independence ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Highland 5-4.
Destiny Serna made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Serna wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Power, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Independence now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Bakersfield Christian, their record now sits at 17-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bakersfield Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Bakersfield Christian's way against Independence in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Bakersfield Christian made off with a 9-3 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
