Glades Day is a perfect 10-0 against Glades Central since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Gators will look to defend their home field against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Glades Day's offense. They lost 6-0 to Master's Academy two weeks ago. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Gators' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Glades Day saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Perez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glades Central). They blew past Inlet Grove 22-6 on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Edinson Cruz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Glades Central is 2-1 when Cruz allows three or fewer hits, but 0-8 otherwise. Cruz was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Glades Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Glades Day has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Glades Central, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Glades Day has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Glades Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Glades Day got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in February against Glades Central by a conclusive 15-9 score. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
