The South Bend Riley Wildcats lost against the South Bend Clay Colonials back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. South Bend Riley fell 40-31 to South Bend Clay. South Bend Riley has not had much luck with South Bend Clay recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
South Bend Riley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Serinity Pinkney, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and five assists. Pinkney also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Serenity Farmer, who scored six points along with four steals.
South Bend Clay was led to victory by Maliya Freeman and Delilah Castaneda. Freeman dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Castaneda scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrece Cunningham, who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
South Bend Riley's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for South Bend Clay, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Bend Riley and Cassopolis will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cassopolis is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. As for South Bend Clay, they will head out on the road to face off against Penn at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Penn presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Bend Clay in Indiana (Penn is ranked 71st, while South Bend Clay is ranked 350th).
