George Washington is 0-10 against Halifax County since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Comets at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
George Washington is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of Martinsville. On the bright side, the 14- run effort marked the Eagles' highest-scoring game to date.
James White made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Patrick Taylor also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Halifax County put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Chatham a 21-0 shutout. Considering the Comets have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Clark made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Thomasson, who went 5-for-6 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaharie Edmonds, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Halifax County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .567 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Halifax County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for George Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
George Washington might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Halifax County in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
