Basketball Recap: Notre Dame De Sion Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Taelyn Smith and Terryn Ford

After flying high against Platte Valley co-op [South Nodaway/Jefferson] last Saturday, Notre Dame de Sion came back down to earth. The Notre Dame de Sion Storm took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Teresa's Academy Stars on Thursday. The Storm have struggled against the Stars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Notre Dame de Sion's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Terryn Ford, who posted 16 points, and Taelyn Smith, who went 5-for-10 on her way to 13 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Ford a new career-high in points.

Even though they lost, Notre Dame de Sion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

St. Teresa's Academy was led to victory by Nora Roddy and Jazlyn Rhodes. Roddy went 7-for-12 en route to 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Rhodes scored 14 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Rhodes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addi Moylan, who put up nine points.

Notre Dame de Sion's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for St. Teresa's Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Notre Dame de Sion has already played their next matchup, a 61-34 loss against Tipton on the 22nd. As for St. Teresa's Academy, they will challenge St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
