The Post Falls Trojans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Lake City Timberwolves at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Post Falls is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene, and Coeur d'Alene kept the tradition alive. The Trojans fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 10-8 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since May 2, 2024.
Sienna Williams and Jaya Felix stepped up to the plate in a big way. Williams got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI, while Felix went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Felix hit this season. McKenna Zimmerman was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake City). They blew past Sandpoint 23-9 on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Timberwolves as they're now sitting on five straight.
Madeline Peterson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Peterson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, KaeLee Kolden was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Lopez, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Lake City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.
Lake City's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Post Falls, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Post Falls hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Lake City struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Post Falls took their victory against Lake City in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Timberwolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
