Caldwell County is 9-1 against Crittenden County since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will take on the Rockets at 5:30 p.m. Caldwell County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Crittenden County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Caldwell County will head out to face Crittenden County after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. The Tigers lost 16-3 to Lyon County. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tigers, who until this contest were averaging 3.92 runs allowed.
Caldwell County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Ginn, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Derek Wilson was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Crittenden County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Fort Campbell on Thursday. The Rockets never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Rockets not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28th (when they won 10-0).
Hudson Stokes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Crittenden County let Eli Lovell and Quinn Summers run wild. Lovell went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Summers went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Summers has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Asa McCord, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Caldwell County suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 20-5. As for Crittenden County, their record now sits at 10-16-1.
Caldwell County took their win against Crittenden County in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
