The Masuk Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Amity Regional Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Masuk comes in on seven and Amity Regional on three.
While Masuk's victory against Immaculate wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Mustangs 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 19th.
Masuk let Alyssa Castillo and Josie Lieto run wild. Castillo went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI, while Lieto went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That home run marked the first that Castillo has launched this season. Sofia Lieto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Amity Regional nor Norwich Free Academy made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Spartans walked away with a 4-0 win over the Wildcats. Give the Spartans' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Gabby Celozzi, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Norwich Free Academy off the board. Celozzi has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Amity Regional saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Luddy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another was Leah Monschein, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Masuk's victory was their 22nd straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1-1. As for Amity Regional, their record now sits at 17-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Masuk has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Amity Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Masuk's way against Amity Regional when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Masuk made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
