The Fernandina Beach Pirates won the last time they faced the Yulee Hornets, and things went their way on Thursday too. Fernandina Beach walked away with a 34-23 victory over Yulee. The win made it back-to-back wins for Fernandina Beach.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fernandina Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savina Wells, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wells set a new season high mark in steals with three. Hadleigh White was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six steals.
Despite the loss, Yulee saw an underclassman step up: Rheyna Hilton scored eight points along with 19 rebounds and six blocks. Hilton scored a full 34.8% of Yulee's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Reynolds, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Yulee were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fernandina Beach only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
The win got Fernandina Beach back to even at 5-5. As for Yulee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fernandina Beach will be home for the holidays to greet Hilliard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilliard is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Yulee will be home for the holidays to greet First Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
