Baseball Game Preview: Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder vs. Weaver Bearcats

The Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder will head out on the road to challenge the Weaver Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Jacksonville Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.

While Jacksonville Christian Academy's victory against Anniston wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Thunder won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 18-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunder have posted against the Bulldogs since March 11, 2021.

Jessie Gannaway was a standout: he went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Brodeur, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Jacksonville Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Weaver suffered their closest loss since March 2, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Wellborn by a score of 7-5.

Weaver saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cael Fulmer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Fulmer has become a key player for the Bearcats: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-19 otherwise. Caden Thorton also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Jacksonville Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Weaver, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-20 record this season.

Jacksonville Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Weaver when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
