The Rivera Raiders waltzed into their game Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Macedonian Christian 66-45. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Rivera also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Leading Rivera to victory were Andy Sanchez and Isaiah Cuellar. Sanchez scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Cuellar scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Cuellar is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jesus Hinojosa was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Rivera is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Macedonian Christian, their loss ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-2.
Rivera will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Weslaco at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Macedonian Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against STX at 7:00 p.m. STX will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1302nd, while Macedonian Christian is ranked 489th).
