The Brookhaven Panthers will square off against the Natchez Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of three wins, Brookhaven's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to South Jones 59-53.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kordell Collins, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Haliburton, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Natchez came up short against Provine on Tuesday and fell 52-40. While losing is never fun, Natchez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Provine is ranked 23rd).
Brookhaven's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Natchez, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-12.
Brookhaven strolled past Natchez in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a score of 57-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brookhaven since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
