The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes were the 46-36 winner over the Vinton County Vikings when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Nelsonville-York fell 53-43 to Vinton County on Thursday. Nelsonville-York has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alayna Okulich and Airah Lavy certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Okulich dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Lavy scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Okulich has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madi Pidcock, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Nelsonville-York has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Vinton County, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9.
Nelsonville-York will challenge Athens at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Athens will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Vinton County will take on Trimble at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Trimble is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
