After a string of seven wins, the Marquette Catholic Blazers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 43-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Culver Academies. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Marquette Catholic has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Marquette Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Laniah Davis scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Robinson, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Marquette Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Culver Academies only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Culver Academies' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Herron, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Jimara Combs was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Marquette Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Culver Academies, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marquette Catholic will take on Tri-Township at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Tri-Township is ranked 83rd, while Marquette Catholic is ranked 93rd). As for Culver Academies, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Chicago Central at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
