Football Recap: Winfield Has No Trouble Against Riverside + How To Watch

The Winfield Generals strolled past the Riverside Warriors with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 42-28.

It was another big night for Jared Miller, who rushed for 121 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 218 yards while completing 76.5% of his passes. Those 218 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Gannon Boggs also helped out as he racked up 122 rushing yards.

Winfield didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Riverside to a completion percentage of just 31.2%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Aiden Tate and Tyler Laughery, who each logged two passes deflected. Winfield has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.58 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.58 in their last three games.

Despite the loss, Riverside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Malakhi Hope rushed for 143 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries. Those 143 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Hope.

Winfield's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.3 points over those games. As for Riverside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winfield will square off against Point Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Generals will be up against the Big Blacks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.22 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Riverside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Capital at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
