West Valley recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Prospect, who defeated 932nd ranked James Lick, 36-14. Angel Guillen threw for 446 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win.
Branham scaled the state rankings by moving to 863 from 902 this week, the biggest jump in West Valley. The Bruins were able to move up by defeating Overfelt 31-0.
Daniel Newson had an awesome week catching the football as the Panthers defeated the Comets. He caught 12 passes for 294 yards.
He went 23-35 with 2 interceptions.
Guillermo Gonzalez was the best running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 178 yards as Yerba Buena defeated James Lick.
Mike Suarez's team's Guillen and Newson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Guillen has thrown for 1,610 yards this season, while Newson has 51 catches for 741 yards. Tarey Slaughter from Hill leads the league in rushing with 484 yards.
The top two teams in West Valley will face off this week when first place Hill takes on second place Prospect. Last week, the Falcons topped Del Mar, while the Panthers beat Ray Jimenez's team.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Prospect's Newson goes up against Hill's Gabe Flores.
Next week's game between the Panthers and Jake Redmond's team will feature an aerial matchup as Guillen tests his arm against Flores' defensive ability.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Prospect takes on the Falcons. The Panthers have allowed 123 points this season, while Hill has given up 113. Prospect allowed 14 points last week as it topped the Comets.

The Falcons added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Dons, 62-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
