It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Big Spring Steers can now relate to. They were outmatched by Riverside at home and fell 49-20. Big Spring just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Big Spring's lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kavien Ford, who rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown. Ford is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zeyire Franklin, who picked up 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Derek Vasquez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 103 yards and four touchdowns, while also throwing for 206 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Rojas III, who picked up 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Big Spring's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Brownwood and 10-1 Seminole (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.9% over those games). As for Riverside, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Big Spring does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Riverside will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Springtown at 6:00 p.m. on November 16th. Springtown is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
