The Wallkill Panthers will face off against the Saugerties Sawyers at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Wallkill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Wallkill barely beat Our Lady of Lourdes the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors an 8-0 shutout on Monday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Ariana Reyes and Ava O'Flaherty did most of the damage at the plate: Reyes went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while O'Flaherty went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Reyes has posted since back in April of 2025. Ava Chiavaro was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wallkill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Saugerties suffered their biggest loss since May 17, 2025 on Saturday. They lost 13-1 to Valley Central. The defeat continues a trend for the Sawyers in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.
Saugerties saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alanna Mower, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Ava Stinemire also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The victory got Wallkill back to even at 3-3-2. As for Saugerties, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wallkill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Saugerties struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wallkill came up short against Saugerties in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 6-2. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
