The Hazlehurst Indians will be playing at home against the Magee Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Magee took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hazlehurst, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, Hazlehurst earned a 42-33 victory over Seminary. Given Hazlehurst's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Seminary is ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Magee's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gulfport.
Despite the loss, Magee got a solid performance out of Nicole Sandifer, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 45.2% of Magee's points, marking the 23rd time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tamyra Hayes, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Hazlehurst has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Magee, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
Hazlehurst came up short against Magee in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 45-40. Can Hazlehurst avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
