The Allendale Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Grant Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Allendale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Allendale and Coopersville meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Falcons came out on top against the Broncos by a score of 11-6.
Bailey Scholma spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tessa Gunter, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kloie Raterink was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Grant entered their tilt with White Cloud on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 18-3 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Payton Shoemaker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Shoemaker was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Logyn Hansen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Another player making a difference was Addison Herrmann, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Grant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Grant now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Allendale, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Allendale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Grant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
