Volleyball Game Preview: St. Ignatius Wildcats vs. Avon Eagles

The St. Ignatius Wildcats will challenge the Avon Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Ignatius is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

St. Ignatius' tournament run continued when they took on Beavercreek on Saturday. St. Ignatius walked away with a 3-1 victory over Beavercreek.

St. Ignatius walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-16, 20-25, 25-12.

St. Ignatius relied on the efforts of Andrew Brobbey, who had five digs and two aces, and Cristian Aguirre, who had three digs and two aces. Brobbey is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 20 or more in each of the last 17 games he's played dating back to last season. Henry Van Ginkel also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

They weren't the only good server: St. Ignatius was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Avon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Garfield Heights 3-0 on Friday.

The final score came out to 27-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Avon now has a winning record of 2-1. As for St. Ignatius, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: St. Ignatius has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 aces.
