Softball Recap: Hillside's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Hillside barely beat Southeast Raleigh the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Bulldogs on Monday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Tierney Bailey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That hit was her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maliya Blandford, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. Jaylin Robinson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Hillside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeast Raleigh only posted a batting average of .267.

With the win, Hillside broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-4. As for Southeast Raleigh, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Hillside and Southeast Raleigh could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Hornets (ranked 358th) will meet Jordan (ranked 110th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Southeast Raleigh will square off against Fuquay - Varina at 6:00 p.m. on the 22nd with a big rank disadvantage (359 vs. 77).
