The Lee County Yellow Jackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Pinecrest, falling 79-52. The matchup was a close 33-32 at the break, but unfortunately for Lee County it sure didn't stay that way.
Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayden Hill, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Hill is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronnie Hooker, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Pinecrest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Melton, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Melton is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last nine games he's played. Javion Saunders was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Lee County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Pinecrest, they pushed their record up to 10-8 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lee County will take on Richmond at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Richmond knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Lee County likes a good challenge. As for Pinecrest, they will be playing at home against Scotland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Scotland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Pinecrest is ranked 180th).
