Horizon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Tate. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mackenzie Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Duncan wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Morgyn Welch, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs Welch has posted since back in April. Brooke Grafton was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Navarre owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over South Lake.
The result came thanks to Kayden Riddle's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Renee Hester, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
Horizon's win bumped their record up to 21-6. As for Navarre, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9.
Horizon's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game.
