The Derby Red Raiders will face off against the Ansonia Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Derby headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Gilbert let them put that streak behind them. The Red Raiders blew past the Yellowjackets 13-1 on Thursday. The Red Raiders haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Nicholas Sheridan and Michael Slack made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sheridan pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Slack tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Sheridan went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Slack got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs Slack has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Vincent Nuzzo was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Derby's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Brooklyn Fernandez was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Derby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Ansonia entered their tilt with Seymour on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-3.
Ansonia pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Derby, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.
Derby might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Ansonia in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Red Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
