The Doherty Memorial Highlanders will square off against the Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Doherty Memorial was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against North on Thursday. The Highlanders blew past the Polar Bears 13-1. The high-scoring effort was just what the Highlanders needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Audrey Lefebvre was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Panagiotou, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Doherty Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Advanced Math & Science Academy waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Rebels as they made off with a 17-4 win.
Ava McLeod made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Advanced Math & Science Academy got a massive performance out of Madelyn Glynn, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Glynn has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Laudate, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Advanced Math & Science Academy's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Doherty Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Doherty Memorial hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Advanced Math & Science Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Doherty Memorial might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Advanced Math & Science Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024.
