Palmyra hasn't had much luck against Lower Dauphin recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars will challenge the Falcons at 4:00 p.m.
Palmyra came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 10-0 to Elizabethtown.
Palmyra saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emalyn Funck, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Lower Dauphin waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Considering the Falcons have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Sadie Borrelli was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Carissa Wenner was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Casey O'Brien, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Lower Dauphin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .314 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Lower Dauphin's record now sits at 12-5. As for Palmyra, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Palmyra has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lower Dauphin struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Palmyra suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Lower Dauphin in their previous matchup on April 1st. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
