The Westfield School Hornets typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday the Brookstone Cougars proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged the Hornets out 37-34. The win was all the more spectacular given Brookstone's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Westfield School is ranked 54th).
Brookstone's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Zwickey, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Yancey, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Brookstone is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. As for Westfield School, their defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2.
Brookstone will head out on the road to face off against Kendrick at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kendrick has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 28. As for Westfield School, they will be playing in front of their home fans against First Presbyterian Day at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. First Presbyterian Day is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
