Tombstone is a perfect 6-0 against Santa Rita since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Yellow Jackets will square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Tombstone is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Tombstone will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Benson on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bobcats a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won 11 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
DJ Elias made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Elias was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Erik Koehler, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Trey Franklin, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Santa Rita was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 13-0 to Willcox. Considering the last time the Eagles couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Tombstone has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Rita, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Santa Rita's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Tombstone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Santa Rita, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Tombstone keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Tombstone took their win against Santa Rita in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 23-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellow Jackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
