The Central Cambria Red Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Penn Cambria Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Central Cambria has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Central Cambria managed to slip by Chestnut Ridge the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Devils came up short against the Lions on Monday, falling 12-2. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
JD Brouse was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Penn Cambria). They put the hurt on Bishop Carroll with a sharp 12-2 win on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.
Ethan McCullen looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Caden Gibbons was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Davison, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Penn Cambria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Carroll only managed three.
Central Cambria now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Penn Cambria, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Central Cambria has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Penn Cambria struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Central Cambria came out on top in a nail-biter against Penn Cambria in their previous matchup last Friday, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
