Clawson is 9-1 against Hazel Park since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Clawson will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Clawson was able to grind out a solid victory over Warren Woods-Tower, taking the game 7-2.
Trent Stephan and Elliott Groves made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Stephan tossed two innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Groves kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. At bat, Stephan went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Groves went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Groves a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Therrien, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Jackson Hein also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, while Hazel Park put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Fitzgerald. The Vikings walked away with a 4-0 win over the Spartans. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Zay Justice was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Clawson's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Hazel Park, their record now sits at 9-5.
Everything went Clawson's way against Hazel Park when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Clawson made off with a 15-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
