Softball Recap: Mount Vernon Snags Tenth Victory in Last 11 Games

Mount Vernon never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past the Chisum Mustangs 15-0. Considering the Tigers have won 14 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Grayson Hammonds was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hammonds was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Baird, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kajmiere Foster, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Mount Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.

Mount Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Chisum, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Vernon will challenge Lone Oak at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Chisum, they will face off against Como-Pickton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
