The Alonso Ravens will venture away from home to challenge the East Bay Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Alonso's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so East Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Alonso wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Alonso got a good showing from Marcelo Diaz Villalon, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Diaz Villalon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alvin Santiago made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but East Bay ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Newsome 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since March 13th.
J.J. Groover looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Jeffrey Diab was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rory Beauford, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
The victory snapped East Bay's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-11 record. As for Alonso, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
Alonso was able to grind out a solid win over East Bay in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ravens since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
